US: With Ecuador Granting Asylum To Julian Assange, Rafael Correa Is A Co-Conspirator In Ignoring Rule of Law – by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) issued the following statement after reports that Ecuador’s Rafael Correa had granted asylum to serial leaker of classified documents, Julian Assange.

Ros-Lehtinen’s statement:

“If anyone had doubts about the true objective of Rafael Correa and his leftist authoritarian regime, then granting asylum to Julian Assange showcases Correa’s nefarious intentions. This international cabal of irresponsible rogue regimes, law breakers and extremists groups don’t care about following international agreements and norms.

Correa is turning himself into a co-conspirator in this obvious attempt for Julian Assange to avoid due process. This recent action by Correa is just another reason why the United States needs to reexamine our relationship with Ecuador, deny Ecuador its trade preferences with the U.S., and hold Rafael Correa accountable to the injustices he has perpetrated.”

NOTE: Mr. Assange has been in the Ecuadorean embassy in London, England for two months in an attempt to avoid extradition to Sweden where he faces charges of sexual assault.
